The international travel excursions described in these pages have been planned meticulously by the Academy for International Medical Study to provide doctors with the opportunity to see the world in a whole new way - benefiting from enhanced professional knowledge and enjoying a world-class cultural experience that they may share with family and friends.
This year, we provide a choice of fabulous destinations, each offering luxury travel and accommodations, unusual cultural experiences, and a rewarding - often inspiring - educational component far removed from the typical lecture hall.
The medical/health component of each tour is well integrated into the cultural aspects of the travel experience and often involves the unexpected. For example, it may be the opportunity to witness the Chinese healing arts, to visit a clinic in the African Bush, or even to walk with a naturalist in the Costa Rican rain forest, exploring how shamans use medicinal plants. AIMS' programs are Category 2 CME accredited. Whatever tour you choose, you may never look at international travel and international CME the same way again.
Specialized, Balanced Tours
None of the tours described on the following pages is, by any stretch of the imagination, "off the shelf." AIMS Travel understands the highly specialized interests and discriminating tastes of doctors and knows that their time is valuable. Therefore, a great deal of attention has been paid to striking the optimal balance between what there is to see and how much time there is to see it. For example, spending eight days in a country that requires ten would make the experience hectic and rushed instead of truly enjoyable. On the other hand, one day too long in a country could make the tour lose momentum and time drag. AIMS Travel has the knowledge and experience to achieve just the right balance. Whether it is a scenic boat ride on the lovely Danube, or a relaxing lunch at the exceptional San Dominica restaurant in Imola after a morning of exploring Bologna, AIMS Travel knows a great deal about each destination and how to make the most of the time spent there.
Experienced Tour Directors
An important element that distinguishes AIMS tours from others is the handpicked, experienced Tour Directors who assist and accompany travelers every step of the way. They know what they're doing and have been where you're going. Since AIMS Tour Directors know the locations firsthand, they may provide advice about unusual places to dine, shop or visit during free hours or may suggest a particular museum or outdoor activity that coincides with a doctor's or other traveler's individual tastes or interests. A traveling spirit and the ability to make people feel at home is typical of AIMS Tour Directors - participants do, and will, follow them everywhere and anywhere.
*All tours with 15 or more passengers will be accompanied by a tour manager.
Sense of Collegiality and Camaraderie
Since these tours are developed with considerable input from doctors (often the tour directors themselves are doctors) specifically for doctors, their families and friends, it is no wonder that a great sense of collegiality and camaraderie usually develops during an AIMS tour. The small group size and the commonality of interests among the travelers enhance this group spirit.
Value in international travel is easily measured. It is in the quality of accommodations, the intelligence of the itinerary and the decision to choose scheduled airlines rather than charters. AIMS Travel Services adds further value because of the volume of travel it handles each year. This allows AIMS Travel to command some extremely favorable rates and gives it access to some of the finest transportation, accommodations, restaurants, and sightseeing activities. This adds value in terms all of us can understand when it comes to travel - enjoyment!
Limited Group Size
To ensure personalized attention to the needs and interests of each traveler, the size of the group of participants in each tour is limited. It generally ranges as few as 6 to as many as 20.
