Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to your hotel. Although it is the modern-day capital of Vietnam, Hanoi still retains the mystery and charm of past centuries. Narrow lanes and traditional shops invite exploration by walking, while its many beautiful public spaces lakes, parks, tree-lined boulevards and monuments give the city an air of elegance and harmony with nature unique among Asian capitals. This afternoon’s orientation tour explores Hanoi including the enchanting Hoan Kiem Lake in the heart of the city, the delightful Ngoc Son Pagoda with its beautiful gardens and the unique, and a special visit to the History Museum (Bao Tang Lich Su) which shows artifacts from Vietnam’s turbulent history. Visit the bustling Old Quarter and its colorful marketplace and see the Opera House. Tonight, a Welcome Dinner celebrates your arrival. D
This morning a Professional Visit is scheduled. This afternoon visit the Temple of Literature, dedicated to Confucius. Next see the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed in Oct/Nov), a site of pilgrimage, and the unique One Pillar Pagoda. After lunch, visit the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Ethnology before stopping at the infamous Hanoi Hilton Prison, before returning to the hotel. Tonight, enjoy the Water Puppet Show, a fantastic art form originating in northern Vietnam, best seen in Hanoi. BL
Enjoy your journey to Halong Bay, one of the greatest natural wonders of Asia. The bay and its 3,000 islands are spectacular. The vast bay covers 4,000 square kilometers with dozens of fjords and inlets to explore and peaceful places to swim fish or just relax. Cruise on a wooden boat among the emerald waters. A delicious Seafood Lunch is included on board. Return to Hanoi for your overnight stay. BL
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Hue, one of the most beautiful cities in Vietnam. Start your discovery of Hue with a boat ride down the Perfume River, stopping first at the Thien Mu Pagoda this was a hotbed of anti-government protest during the early 60s. Continue to the beautiful tomb of the famed Emperor Minh Mang. Lunch is included today. BL
An exciting full day tour in Hue includes a visit to the Imperial Palace, the Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City. It’s like stepping back into a Vietnam of a glittering former era. Visit the majestic mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc, set amid frangipani and pine trees, and the gaudy tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh, which combines European and Vietnamese elements. This morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Transfer to your hotel, then a Professional Visit is scheduled for this afternoon, followed by a city tour that will include a visit to the French colonial-era Notre Dam Cathedral facing bustling Dong Khoi Street in the heart of old Saigon. Continue to the Pagoda of the Jade Emperor, a spectacularly colorful structure and the gem of all the Chinese temples in the city. On to Ben Thanh Market, one of the liveliest markets anywhere and followed by a visit to Cholon, the “Chinatown” of the city, which means “Big Market”. Tonight, enjoy dinner in a local restaurant. BD
Drive to the outskirts of the city to visit the legendary Cu Chi Tunnels, which became famous during the 1960s. The tunnel system stretched from the South Vietnamese capital to the Cambodian border. After, drive Tay Ninh, the birthplace of Cao Dai religion, a fusion of Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Christianity, Islam and native Vietnamese spiritual beliefs. Each day at noon, worshippers garbed in colorful robes flock the Temple to participate in the daily prayer sessions, which visitors may respectfully observe from the upper balconies. From Saigon, drive into the heart of the Mekong Delta to Cai Be and embark on one of the local boats to explore Cai Be Floating Market, a lively market of fruit and vegetable barges. Stop at the Mekong River Islands to see how the delta residents make traditional treats with the opportunity to sample the local delicacies. Disembark at Vinh Long and return to the city. BL
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap; meeting and transfer to the hotel. Here you will discover Angkor Wat, one of the extraordinary “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.” This temple, built in 802 A.D., was once home to more than one million people at the height of the Khmer Empire.
