Depart the USA aboard your flight to South America. Arrive this evening in Lima, meeting and transfer to your hotel.


Founded in 1535 by the Spanish Conquistador Francisco Pizarro, this colonial city became the political and military capital of the New World until it was declared the capital of Peru in 1821.  After breakfast, start your tour with a visit to the Larco Herrera Museum, housed in an 18th century colonial mansion, which exhibits the most extensive collection of pre-Columbian art in Peru.  It contains fine examples of textile work, one of which has a world record breaking 298 threads per inch as well as the tools ancient Peruvians used to make metals, huaco ceramics and gold and silver pieces with semi-precious stones. Afternoon tour of this ancient colonial city declared by UNESCO “World Cultural Heritage” and sprinkled with modern skyscrapers. Visit the Plaza Mayor where the Government Palace, City Hall, Cathedral and the Archbishop’s palace are located.  Proceed to Casa Aliaga, a remarkably preserved colonial mansion continuously occupied by the same family since 1535.  Continue to the San Francisco Monastery, a wonderful work of colonial architecture. Drive through the residential districts of Miraflores and San Isidro for magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and its beaches. After, a Professional Visit is scheduled. Return to the hotel for a short rest, tonight, enjoy a “welcome dinner” at one of the best restaurants in Lima – Huaca Pucilana – located in an unparalleled setting within the compound of a 1500 year-old adobe pyramid, built by the original inhabitants of Lima.  BD


This morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco, fabled capital of the Incan Empire. Begin your trip to the Urubamba Valley, the “Sacred Valley” of the Incas. Continue to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman outside the city, some of the perfectly carved stones weigh over 130 tons.  Arrive at the colonial village of Pisac to visit the bustling Indian market. Bargain with the natives for Peruvian handicrafts and jewelry. After lunch at Casa Hacienda Orihuela, continue to Ollantaytambo, an ancient fortress of temples and terraces that towers high over the valley. Visit the town, considered the most intact Incan town in Peru. Afternoon Professional Visit is scheduled. Later return to your hotel for dinner and overnight. BLD


Transfer to Ollanta station for the hour & half train ride aboard train to Machu Picchu. Considered the “Lost City” of the Incas, this momentous archaeological find is situated along remote mountains, amid a semi-tropical jungle. Ascend to the ruins of the ancient citadel amid lush terraced hillsides, to explore the complex of temples, altars and more than 200 ancient buildings. Enjoy lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge. Return to your hotel for overnight and Dinner in Machu Picchu. BLD


Today, enjoy a day at leisure. Bus ticket and entrance to the Ruins is included to explore the many wonders of Machu Picchu. We strongly recommend that you wake up early to see the beautiful sunrise over Machu Picchu. This is a once in a lifetime sight. Return to Cusco by train for overnight. BLD


Today, drive in a deluxe motorcoach across the Altiplano. See the dramatic landscapes of the highland plateau, with occasional views of tiny Andean villages and herd of llamas and vicunas.  Stop at Andahuaylillas; see the beautiful baroque church built at the beginning of the 17th century, known for its beautiful murals.  Then, on to Raqchi; visit the Inca Temple, built to worship Wirachocha, one of the most important Inca gods.  Continue to the archaeological site of Pukara before lunch at a local restaurant. Arrive in Puno; meeting, assistance and transfer to your hotel for overnight. BL

 SATURDAY | DAY 7 | PUNO                       

Enjoy a complete day of sailing in Titicaca Lake, the highest navigable lake in the world. Depart early morning for the floating islands of Uros where the Indian lake tribe still maintains its ancient traditions and lifestyle.  Continue to the island of Taquile where the Quechua-speaking residents weave some of Peru’s finest textiles.  Enjoy lunch at a local home that also serves as a restaurant. Explore the island and magnificent views of Lake Titicaca before returning to Puno for overnight. BL


Transfer to Juliaca airport for your flight to Lima. Transfer to your hotel. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure on your own. B
